Interactive grammar games clauses

Practice spelling, vocabulary, speaking, questions and answers, as well a grammar with these fun on-line games and activities. This game focuses on part-time jobs with four main sections. Then, there are simple questions and answer games for conversation practice asking about someone's part-time job. The grammar games help students to learn to form and use relative clauses. The vocabulary and spelling games just cover the business or store vocabulary, 'a clothing store' or 'a fast food restaurant' for example.

It's important that the students be familiar with the vocabulary before trying the other sections. The grammar exercises use both 'that' and 'who' for the relative pronouns.

The students can use either when typing their answers but the multiple choice exercises will only provide one or the other for students to choose from. Instead, have each student write his answers on corresponding game cards. Project only one sentence at a time, allowing students plenty of time to carefully consider each sentence.

Play a game in which students have to replace subject nouns with noun clauses. After the student correctly uses a noun clause in his revised sentence, have him write a new simple sentence on the board.

Call up the next student to revise it in the same manner. Because ESL students benefit from modeling, give examples on the board first.

Add a sensory dimension by using different colored chalk or white-board markers. Visual representations are helpful for ESL students.

Each quiz is online and interactive so you can take them on your computer or mobile device and see your score and the answers. The page is new so there are not many quizzes yet, but we'll be adding more and more to cover all the differing points of grammar you'll find on Grammar Wiz. You can also download and print off these quizzes.
